contacting ebay with feedback
Is there any way to give feedback or pass on ideas for better service on certain items? 90% of listing seem to be modern, mass produced items or one of a kind art wares. The antique and collectible business is so different from regular retail and they could do more to help both sellers & buyers with specific programs or guidelines to avoid confusion and incorrect descriptions. So many times I've asked a seller of an antique how they came to ID or date something, frequently the reply is something like "I saw one just like it listed", "I used google AI", "it belonged to my 99 yo grandmother so MUST be antique", "someone told me" and other inane reasons. 80% of antiques listed are either repros, fakes or misidentified, AI can't tell the difference between a ca 1880 piece vs a repro ca 1980 or a piece of Victorian art glass vs a 1950-80's piece by Fenton, Blenko etc. There should be guidelines, US customs doesn't tax antiques, defined as an item 100+ years old, anything newer is not antique and duty is charged. I've been told "antique" is a loose term used for items 25+ years old or pre-2000 and vintage is anything more than 10 years old! This is confusing to amateur sellers who want to be accurate but don't know how to be. Anyone have any suggestions? Matt
