Contacting eBay with a difficult problem
Ebay's 30 day refund rule is not fit for purpose in my case. I purchased a SSD on 25 Sept ($39.79). The seller claimed to have posted it on 9 Oct (the same day as the final estimated delivery date). The seller did not tell the truth . The item was posted with Australia Post on Oct 17. (Posted 23 days after purchase). By not telling the truth, the seller prevented me from cancelling the order. The item sent was not what I ordered (cheaper one). I suggested a refund. The seller suggested $6. I accepted. When I tried the item, I found that it was either not new or counterfeit. It was also defective. The seller said they would replace it, if I first provided good feedback. This put me in a no-win situation. I declined. Then I got a "will post it soon" from the seller. When this didn't happen, I was told that the item had already been posted and that I should be patient and wait a few days. This time there was no email from Australia Post. I could find no way of contacting someone from eBay with this complicated problem. All I got was automated answers that did not address the problem. The 30 day refund rule does not work when a seller games the system at the buyers expense!

Mentor2 years agoeBay can not help when it is past the 30 day return window. You should have opened a not received claim as soon as the purchase was past the latest estimated delivery date. Then when you received a defective item, the seller would have had a choice to pay the return shipping, or tell you to trash it.
Contact your credit card issuer and ask them to open a dispute for a defective item received, for the balance of the payment.
