I have a wrong item from a seller that is outside the return window - the seller has responded that they will accept a return and I need to speak directly to an agent to start the return and I cannot get past the automated assistant?

It won't do any good to speak with an agent. Once the return window closes, you'll have to negotiate the terms of the return with the seller. You can't open a return past the deadline (nor can eBay do it for you).

Ask the seller for the address to use for the return and hang on to the tracking number when you ship it.
