combing sveral sales items into one sales item.
How do I take 4 or 5 sales items and list them as one item? Do I cancel each sales item and the make a new listing with the combined products?

If you are doing that at the request of a Buyer I would not do it. Early on selling I did a few special listing things for Buyers who never purchased ... I got the feeling they were just trying to give me (and other newer Sellers busy work). You can Combine Buy it now Sales after they have all been purchased. Step by step instructions down the page.
If on the other hand you just want to create a new listing with all of those items in it then use the End function on the drop-down menu on the item and create a new listing with new pictures. The Ended items will move to your Unsold - Inactive file where you can delete them from that file.
You can actually Combine multiple Buy it now items prior to printing a label:
-Sold items will be in your Awaiting shipment-print shipping label file
-Use the check box on the left for the items to be Combined
-At the top of the list is a Shipping drop-down menu on the left, select Print shipping labels
-The items will be moved to the Bulk label flow
-Use the check boxes again on the left and then click the Combine button at the top of the page
-The items will be Combined, over on the right you can adjust the weight, box dimensions, Shipping method (if necessary) and then review and print the label in the upper right.
-If you want a receipt it is a secondary function on the Bulk label flow.
-You can Refund the Buyer the shipping overage once you ship the package.
