Combined shipping
I have four nearly identical items in my shopping cart. The seller says he offers combined shipping. I have asked him twice what the combined shipping will be and he will not tell me. He actually said eBay sets the rate! I don't want to have to commit to purchase until I know what the shipping cost will be. How do I proceed?

Mentor1 month agoSince you have the items in your CART, there should be an option to REQUEST TOTAL. I believe that option is only available on a desktop computer and not the ebay app.

Mentor1 month ago@newfederalist The seller doesn't understand how combined shipping works if they are just letting eBay figure it for them.
It does depend on the settings they have in their account. If they are small items it will combine weights and be fine. If the items are over 1 cubic foot combined for shipping then the seller is going to be unhappy as they will be shorted on shipping. Shipping is charged based on dimensions when over 1 cubic foot in addition to the weight and distance to the buyer. The eBay system only combines weights not package dimensions. The seller can not ask for more shipping than stated on the listing.
Some sellers charge a flat rate of x amount and x amount for each additional, that would show on the listing in the shipping section.
If the seller will not give help you with a shipping estimate before committing to buy then I would find another seller.

OP1 month agoThank you. They are small items; challenge coins to be exact. If he lets eBay "set the rate" as he claims then how does eBay do it? The shipping per coin is $6.95 what would shipping be for four? Thanks, again.

Mentor1 month ago@newfederalist I can not answer that question as there are settings that the seller uses that can affect the shipping cost. If the seller won't help then the only option is to commit to buy to get a shipping price.

OP1 month agoThanks. I guess I can commit and then if I don't like the combined shipping cost I can cancrl the transaction. It just seems kind of a backwards way to do things.

Mentor1 month ago@newfederalist Keep in mind that buyers can only REQUEST to cancel, the seller can approve or decline. If they decline and you don't pay you get unpaid item strikes on your account.
