Combine shipping 9 items into 1 box to reduce buyers postage cost of items already purchased.
How can I reduce the buyers postage on 9 magazines he bought from me? They were all listed individually, with postage cost from eBay. He already paid postage to ebay on each item, and asked me to see if I could get him a reduction by sending them all in 1 box. Is there a way this can be done?

OP8 months agoI just did the calculations. If I send them out individually the postage is $54.09 ($6.01 per magazine). To combine the the cost is $58.68. Actually $4.59 more!! Makes no sense. Except I will save on bubble envelopes as opposed to a box. Weird.

When you do the Combined shipping on the bulk page ignore the total eBay shows, you have to change the box weight and the box dimensions. The amount will come down significantly for what you pay to ship all 9 in one box.

Since the majority of your listings are auctions for similar items, you should go to your buyer management/requirements settings and scroll down that page until you see the Buyer rules headers.
under it you will see:
That is ebay's auto pay feature which makes it hard for seller's to offer combined shipping unles you do what was posted earlier. If you uncheck the top one for your auctions buyers can request a combined shipping invoice from their cart, you package the items together measure and weigh the package to get a shipping cost, and send an invoice with that cost.
I would suggest that for what you are selling, vintage sports memorabilia / magazines, that you auction all of your items and skip the Buy it Now / Best offer listings.
For non sports memorabilia items, if you are going to auction an item do not add a Buy It Now price to them, for 2 reasons.
1) Once a bid is placed, the BIN option goes away so its kind of useless.
2) Less experienced bidders see that BIN price and may not bid on the auction, thinking that you will cancel the sale if the BIN price is not met.
FYI, For auctions your starting bid price should be the lowest amount you will accept if there is only one bid.

Mentor8 months agoHi @daddymcw
You can actually Combine multiple Buy it now items prior to printing a label:
-Sold items will be in your Awaiting shipment-print shipping label file
-Use the check box on the left for the items to be Combined
-At the top of the list is a Shipping drop-down menu on the left, select Print shipping labels
-The items will be moved to the Bulk label flow
-Use the check boxes again on the left and then click the Combine button at the top of the page
-The items will be Combined, over on the right you can adjust the weight, box dimensions, Shipping method (if necessary) and then review and print the label in the upper right.
-If you want a receipt it is a secondary function on the Bulk label flow.
-You can Refund the Buyer the shipping overage once you ship the package, you will have to do that on each individual listing.

OP8 months agoWill the refund to the buyer come from what he has already paid, or my pocket?
And how does that work?

The Buyer paid you the shipping shown on the listings, all of them. All you are doing when your refund is giving some of the Buyer's money back. It is not out of your pocket. Keep in mind that you were charged eBay fees on what the Buyer paid so you want to back out an amount for the fees then refund the difference in what you paid and what they paid on shipping.
Here is a link to the eBay Help page on Selling fees. Selling fees | eBay
15.3% is the fee they charge for Magazines and the shipping the Buyer paid. You will get the fees back on whatever amount you refund the Buyer and the refund process will show you that.
