Colse case before or after resolution?
I received a defective item. The seller offered to refund %50 of purchase price. When asked "wren can I expect confirmation of refund"
They told me to close the case in order for them to process my refund. From what I understand, you close the case AFTER your issue is resolved. Am I correct or should I follow their instruction and close the case to receive my partial refund?

Mentor3 years agoDon't accept 50% and don't close the case. If you close the case, you'll never hear from the seller again. If you receive an item that is not as described, you are due a FULL refund for the item price + shipping. The seller has to pay for return shipping if he wants the item back.
If you received an item that is not as described, you have up to 30 days to open a return using the option next to the transaction in your Purchase History. The seller will have 3 business days to provide a prepaid return shipping label or else refund. If he does neither, go back to the case on day 4 and use the option to ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund.

That is correct. Closing your case prematurely removes your leverage for getting a refund.
If you started a "not as described" case and shipped an item back using the label supplied by eBay, and the tracking shows delivery back to the seller, if the seller has not refunded you in three business days, you can ask eBay to step in and refund you directly.
