Cheating and scamming buyers.

Question

Does Ebay monitor items for sale? I collect coins. I'm not an expert but I know enough about some things.

I've seen numerous sellers on here selling coins for thousands of dollars when the coins are common and only worth face value? Will Ebay do anything about listing like these?

This makes me hesitant to use Ebay because of numerous attempts to cheat people.

There is no real substitute for buyers knowing what they buy and buying what they know.

If a buyer does not know what an item is worth, how can the buyer know if it is a good deal or not? If the buyer relies on the seller to tell the buyer what something is worth, the buyer is entirely at the seller's mercy, and if that seller is a scammer, the buyer is in trouble, no matter what eBay does.

Buyers should vet their sellers and be familiar enough with what they are buying to notice if something is wrong. Sellers are entirely responsible for the descriptions of their items. Buyers should not assume that eBay has checked anything; with the exception of a few specific categories like luxury handbags, high-end sneakers and expensive watches that go through third-party authentication, eBay never sees what the seller ships or what the buyer receives, so there is nothing for eBay to check.

EBay can’t possibly vet all of the items for sale (literally billions at any given time).
