Changing a buyers bid
One of my buyers placed a bid 20 seconds before my auction ended that was $23 more than the actual winning bid from another buyer and she lost the sale. She said her last bid was confirmed by ebay after she made it but it didn't actually go through so she called ebay and was told that the system was probably slow and that the seller could change the bid. As far as I know that's not possible and certainly would not be fair if that was true and at the same time I feel like the scapegoat in this situation. The losing bidder is a regular customer of mine and I don't appreciate her being told these lies and I don't know what to do. Has anyone else ever heard of this happening?

·3 years agoEither Customer Service lied (telling the caller what it took to get him/her off the phone) or s/he misunderstood. There have been system problems in the past few days over displays of whether an item sold or not but I have not heard of any involving a bid being accepted but not posted.

Mentor3 years agoYou are correct, sellers can not change bids. We have read other instances of CS not providing correct info, or being confused on how things work.
All you can do is gently explain to the buyer that the system and the internet connection can both be slow, making it a good habit to place your max bid with a bit more time to spare.
Since the system won't use more of the max than needed to win the auction, there's no reason to snipe, although I understand the thrill of it 🙂
