Caution Ebay participating in Counterfeit Coin Sales
An Ebay seller advertised the following coin.
1880-CC Morgan Silver Dollar- Nice Coin
OrderOrder
The coin is a Chinese COUNTERFEIT coin.
The weight should be .773 grams and is actually .714 grams Its diameter is 37.9 mm when it should be 38.1 MM
Teh sellec indicated that returns are accepted, however when you start the return it states that you must purchase return postage to HONG KONG! the cost is higher than the item. So then you cancel the return, and contact EBAY. They say, since you cancelled the return ther is nothing we can do. You can contact seller. Useless! What a scam! No way to seek restitution! I'm done with EBAY and their criminal complicity. There is no MONEY BACK EBAY GUARANTEE

If you didn't follow the process correctly, that does not translate to "there is no money back guarantee."
This is the process:
If you received an item that is not as described, you have up to 30 days to open a return using the option next to the transaction in your Purchase History. The seller will have 3 business days to provide a prepaid return shipping label or else refund. If he does neither, go back to the case on day 4 and use the option to ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund.
If you close the case, it cannot be reopened.
At this point, if you paid through PayPal, you can open a case there. If not, contact your credit card company to pursue a chargeback.

OP2 years agoI knew the rules that’s the problem that the Chinese have figured out. Once you begin the return, you are notified that you will be responsible for return postage. In this case it was $40 to ship the coin to Hong Kong! Therefore I would spend more than the purchase, so cancelled the return only to find out it left me no recourse. Therefore the Chinese knew this when the item was listed by an id in Illinois who I had no idea was a front for a Chinese cover. I felt it was ok because the item states returns accepted until Oct. 21. I feel that these criminals are exploiting the EBay rules and that makes EBay complicit.

When you open a case for an item not as described, the seller has to pay for return shipping. Since a seller in China cannot provide a label nor are they willing to pay for the return, you just wait the three days and go back and ask eBay to step in. They will force the refund and you can toss the fake coin in the trash.
If you are going to make a purchase from a seller in China, scrutinize their feedback. It will be very apparent in most cases that you should hit the back button pronto.
