Can't find what I'm looking for
Whatever I search I get all kinds of stuff that has the right words but the product doesn't match the description. I tried to report a bunch of these items and just got an automated response from eBay saying there's nothing wrong with the list thing?

What are you searching for and how are you searching?
There may be some simple changes you can make to your search to get results more to your liking.

OP1 year agoMost recently a laser welder. Mostly just got regular welders. Don't get me started on the claims, if they're true I'll be the real Iron Man. This happens to me a lot. Cryogenic, ultrasonic, and maybe the worst I have come across is automotive tools.

Mentor1 year agoSellers make their own listing titles so eBay accepts whatever the seller uses as long as they are not using Brand Names illegally. So there is nothing to report.
Some items may be harder to find than others. So when you make your search make sure to save the search so eBay will send you a message whenever your search words are used.

OP1 year agoMost recently I searched for "laser welder". A lot of the listings had nothing to do with lasers at all even though it was in the description. They claim to have the power of the Sun in your hand like Iron Man.... That's just the tip of the iceberg!!! Lasers, welding, cryogenic, ultrasonic, I'm sure I could come up with more but if I use any of these words in the search I am presented with irrelevant items!!! If I'm lucky one in 10 will have anything to do with what I'm searching for.

eBay's search is only as effective as each seller's description; if a seller is including inappropriate keywords in the title or item-specifics, that item may be found if you search using those keywords unless you provide additional search keywords, exclusions or filters.
Try limiting your search to a specific category, and then setting a price floor to knock out low-cost offerings that are not actual laser-welders.

Or else find one or two models that you know work for your application, and then search for those specific models.
Or add the actual laser wavelength to your search and search item description:

OP1 year agoI appreciate the help!
eBay has good stuff and good deals but it's a lot of work for little benefit. I've had the same system for years now going from website to website. I searched the exact same thing eBay keeps letting me down. It's not like any one websites is way better but it's just enough and it's consistent from Amazon to Zorro and everything in between.
It hasn't always been this way I wish eBay would clean up their act. I hate to say it at this point I have better luck on Craigslist and Alibaba.

Mentor1 year agoeBay, like any marketplace, has its plusses and minuses.
There are good deals to be had. And there are ways to avoid drop-shippers that make outlandish claims and scammers with deals that are too-good-to-be-true.
With a few tricks, it is possible to limit your search results to a reasonable number, and then to choose the best deals from the best of the sellers in your results.
