Cancelling a bid
I recieved a bid on an item, after a few days that bid was cancelled. Nothing changed on the discription, the reason for the cancellation was that a mistake was made on the amount of the bid. I believe the buyer is supposed to enter the amount of his corrected as soon as possible. I haven't seen any other bids on that item. Placing false bids is used sometimes to find the minimun amount of the item. It is because of this, and yes it is a hardship if I have to unpack the item, but mainly the bid should be honored unless it is immediately retracted and the bid and then the bid as it was originally intended be applied. In this instance I have seen nothing! We need to plug this hole.

That is correct, but the policy on bid retractions is typically observed in the breach.

·3 years agoUnfortunately eBay has done little to nothing (and I am being very generous with the "little to") to enforce the rule against lying on the bid retraction form (or failing to follow through on rebidding the correct amount if the retraction is for a typo; but note that there are situations where such a rebid is impossible due to new bids between the typo and the retraction raising the minimum bid amount to more than the intended bid even after the retraction goes through) since the middle of the last decade. The only action I've seen them take concerning invalid bid retractions is to remove the "Unable to contact seller" reason and to do away with retractions entirely in some trading card categories where "bid shielding" schemes were going on in bulk.
The retractor on the Kenwood TS-870S Transciever has retracted 5 times in the past 12 months (including this one). I've seen those with that number in the hundreds. I'd suggest putting him/her on your Blocked Bidder/Buyer List to protect yourself since eBay seems not to care to protect sellers from this.
