Cancelled order because of Address?
Hello all,
I'd like to report a seller who cancelled my winning auction in order to sell the item to a friend for a higher price, which I believe breaches eBay policy.
Timeline of what happened:
- On Saturday I placed a bid on a UK auction and was winning as the only bidder. My shipping address on file was my UK address at that time.
- On Sunday I needed to buy something on eBay.de and changed my shipping address to a German one for that purchase. I didn't realise this would also change the delivery address on the auction I had already won.
- The seller then cancelled the order, (once I won it on Monday morning) selecting "Issue with buyer's shipping address" as the reason.
- As soon as I saw the cancellation, I updated my address back to UK and contacted the seller to ask if we could still complete the transaction.
- The seller replied that he had already found a friend (in 1 AM imagine) who would pay more for the item and would be selling it to them instead.
The address issue was a simple mistake on my part and easily fixable — I offered to fix it immediately. The seller's own message makes clear that the real reason for cancelling was that the final auction price was lower than he wanted, and he chose to sell to someone else for more money. This is fee avoidance and a misuse of the cancellation reason system.
I have already reported to Ebay but I got a BOT message "We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent"
What are your thoughts?
Thank you,
