A seller can cancel any bidder's bid(s--one cancellation removes all bids by that bidder on that auction) at any time before the auction ends, and may do so for just about any reason, the verboten reasons having to do with schemes to evade eBay fees.
You should be able to find the reason the seller GAVE for the cancellation on the Bid History Page, in the section on cancellations and retractions below the main history (but eBay keeps reformatting things, often with a loss of some functionality; in the past a seller could post a single letter and that sufficed--since we can't see the reasons anymore I have very limited knowledge of what they can do for a reason, e.g. whether they are given a short menu of reasons they can use and if so whether they can go off-menu). Note that one cancellation removes all bids that bidder placed on that auction, though information on only 1 bid will be displayed. You need to be logged in under the same ID you bid with, as only the seller and the particular bidder are allowed to see the reasons.
Go to the Listing Page for the auction (the one with the Description and the Shipping and Payments tab) and from there click on the # of bid display (even if "0 bids") to get to the Bid History Page.
Thanks for your explanation. Unfortunately the seller provided " seller canceled bid" as the explanation, nothing further. I have not experienced this in all the year I been purchasing on eBay and was surprised when it occurred. Seems to me this could create a path for corrupt and dishonesty in the platform. I haven't reached out to the seller to find out why yet so maybe that's my next step. I have have canceled orders from sellers stating I requested it when I hadn't so I what wondering if this was just another way of illuding responsibility before contacting this particular seller.

Check the bid history page to see the reason for the cancellation.
