Canceling a sale.
I purchased an item, from an Ebay vendor. Five minutes later, I found another item from the same vendor, that suited my needs better. So, I pushed the "cancel" button, only to be told that the vendor declined to cancel the sale, because the item had already shipped. In FIVE minutes? I don't think so.
So. That being the case, I'm going to leave negative feedback for this particular vendor, for declining to cancel. However, now? I have Ebay up my behind about the fact that I haven't left feedback yet, when the "official" Ebay policy, is to "wait six days until leaving negative feedback for the vendor..."
Dear Ebay. Hope you're reading this, because I will never leave good feedback, when I've received shoddy or poor customer service from one of your vendors. Period. I will never lie, or deceive, or say something that is less than true, to save someone's business. This is what the "Feedback" thing is all about... so that buyers know good sales vendors from bad ones. I've done business on Ebay for the last eighteen years. I don't generally make a habit out of cancelling an order. I did it this time, because the item was around $250.00 in value, and I found another item of the same type, that was even better, for only a little bit more money.
I cancelled the order, five minutes after I'd MADE the order...and yet was told "we decline to cancel your order"... In my book, that's terrible customer service. I work in the logistics field, for a major distributor of hardware, and building supplies. I'm aware of how long it takes for a picking order to go through, and for an item to make it's way from picking, to shipping, and then to the outbound semi-trailer that takes it to the customer. Far, FAR longer, than a mere five minutes. I am patently FURIOUS, about this. I'm accepting BOTH items that the vendor sent, and I'm doing it under duress. I've paid for both items, and I'll find uses for both of them... but it cost me an "extra" $250.00... If I send the item back, then we go through a months long rigamarole, before I get "credit" for my $250.00 item... and it's just not worth the time to hassle with.
Oh, TRUST me, Ebay... I WILL leave feedback for the items I was sent.. but it will not be favorable feedback.
Item is exactly as described... but the customer service is very poor indeed, and my feedback will reflect that. They've lost a customer for life. I will never do business with them again.
Oh, and? I've also been asked for feedback on an item I haven't yet received...(from a different vendor entirely) and I don't, and won't do that. No item, no feedback, period. I don't know if the "give us feedback on this item NOW" thing is automated, and don't much care. I give feedback, when I receive an item, never before. I strongly advise that nobody else give feedback until they are in possession of the item ordered, and verify it's condition. I rely on feedback, to indicate which sellers are reputable, and which are less than amenable in their customer service practices... and I'm assuming that other Ebay buyers likewise look at the seller's feedback, before doing business. This is the purpose of the feedback feature, on Ebay, and it helps keep savvy buyers from making purchasing mistakes.

Mentor2 years agoSeller is not obligated to cancel regardless of the reason, but most will. So seller doesn't deserve a negative for ebay's policies or the fact you changed your mind. Just ask for a return when you receive it or resell it on ebay.
