Canceled Return request at request of seller, seller did not follow through with replacement
Summary: thomsgen discussed a situation where a defective dishwasher part purchased from a seller caused damage to a customer's home. The seller promised a replacement if the return request was closed, but never delivered the part. lisa5768 advised that once a return is closed, a refund must be pursued through the payment source, while eburtonlab suggested requesting a refund instead of a replacement to verify resolution sooner. thomsgen acknowledged the advice and expressed a lesson learned.
I purchased a dishwasher part from a seller. I installed it for a customer and the part was defective. It leaked and caused damage to my customer's home. My customer still wanted the dishwasher fixed and so I informed the seller about the defective part. He offered to cover a part of the cost of the part which wasn't good enough for me. It was a defective part. I opened a return request at that time. Then the seller offered to send a replacement if I would close the return request as he did not want the defective part back. He even gave a tracking number. I closed the return, I know, foolish on my part, and then the part never showed up and now the tracking number returns invalid. What can I do about this? Is there any recourse? I really feel that this seller was very deceitful in his dealings. Thanks in advance for any advice.

OP1 week agoThanks everyone for your replies. It is exactly how I feared. I will be more diligent next time. Sometimes the price of education is steep.

Mentor2 weeks agoIt is often better to request a refund rather than a replacement, as the refund can be verified without having to wait for shipping. If the refund does not occur, be sure to ask eBay to step in before the deadline passes -- typically twenty-one business days from starting your case.

Once you close the return there is no way to re-open it or open a new one on eBay. You will have to open a refund with your funding source.
As you have found out once you open a return do not close it no matter what a seller tells you until you are satisfied either with a refund or a new item.
