CANCELATION REQUEST AFTER WINNING AND PAYING FOR AN AUTIONED ITEM
Hello,
I do not typically run auctions; however, I had an item that I was unsure how to price, so I listed it as a 7-day auction. The buyer placed multiple bids, won the auction, and completed payment.
This morning, the buyer requested to cancel the transaction, stating concern that the item may not arrive in time. Per eBay policy, sellers are not required to accept cancellation requests after payment has been made, and I have therefore declined the request.
The buyer has since sent multiple messages and indicated they intend to contact eBay because the item has not yet shipped. The listing clearly states the handling time, and the item is still within that timeframe.
If the item had sold at the opening bid price, the transaction would still be binding and could not be canceled at the buyer’s discretion. I am proceeding in accordance with eBay’s policies.
Thank you.

Sellers are never "required" to accept cancellation requests. They of course cannot after the item has shipped. But the choice is entirely theirs before they ship. They are perfectly free to cooperate with a buyer and cancel at any time, including after the buyer has paid. When the seller cancels the transaction, the buyer will automatically be refunded. The seller's fees will also be refunded. Perhaps a review of the Order Cancellation Policy would be helpful: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behavior-policies/order-cancellation-policy?id=5298&st=3&pos=1&query=Order%20cancellation%20policy&intent=buyer%20cancellation&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1682

Mentor8 months agoHi @grj9007 I'm pretty sure all of this comes under the heading of Bad Customer Service. You don't seem to have considered your customer's needs at all during this transaction, only your own. You knew your buyer was anxious to receive the item, but you didn't budge to help them. In your feedback responses you state you care about great customer service. You don't appear to have displayed that on this transaction. If you get bad feedback about this one, from your own recounting of events, it sounds like you will deserve it. Good luck!

You had the right to decline the request. However, being right isn't the same as being smart. When the buyer receives the item, he can open a Not As Described case . . . you can't decline that. Just something to think about.
