How do I, as a buyer, cancel a return request?

You can go back to the return case and use the option in there to close it. But don't close it unless you know you don't want to send the item back OR you haven't yet received the full resolution from the seller. Don't close a return until you are completely satisfied and ready to move on. You won't be able to reopen it.
(If a seller instructs you to close a case so that he can resolve the problem, you're dealing with a scammer.)
