Canadian buyer, sales tax (US to Canada) calculations wrong and inconsistent
How does eBay calculate Canadian sales tax (HST)? I’m buying from Ontario, Canada and sellers are in the US. My sales tax should be 13%. The amount charged on my orders is wrong and inconsistent.
Examples (In $US):
Order 1, subtotal (1 item) $6.50, sales tax $2.49 = 38.3%
Order 2, subtotal (1 item) $9.99, sales tax $3.04 = 30.4%
Order 3, subtotal (1 item) $8.95, sales tax $2.27 = 25.4%
Order 4, subtotal (3 items) $17.45, sales tax $2.81 = 16.1%

We do not have account access and the Sales tax is levied on the TOTAL for the Item Plus shipping, not just the item price. Can you add the shipping piece to that math and recalculate?

OP1 week agoI considered that possibility. When shipping is included, the amount of tax collected is consistently less than 13% and still variable. I have never been charged tax on shipping when buying anywhere else.
