Can refunds be given for defective capsules opened 5 months later after purchase (first need date)
Summary: supraman84 purchased Alpha Lipoic Acid capsules on eBay, which turned tan in color, indicating possible defects from moisture or heat. They reached out to the seller for a resolution but are concerned about obtaining a refund as it has been several months since purchase. lisa5768 noted that eBay's money-back guarantee covers only the first 30 days, so any refund or replacement would need to be at the seller's discretion.
Hello,
I purchased 3 bottles of Alpha Lipoic Acid from a seller on eBay. I purchased these in advance of needed to have a continuous supply. I bought in May of 2026 and first opened the first Bottle in Sept of 2026. When opened, the capsules were tan in color. I researched it and said that they recommend NOT to take due to moisture or heat damage. I opened the 2nd of the 3 and same thing. I did not open the other one assuming they were in the same environment and wanted to show that all 3 faced the same issue by the last one not opened. I just left a message with the seller to see if there is anything that can be done due to defective products. What is the experience of eBay handling a situation like this? This was $65 worth or useless capsules. I have 100% eBay feedback so this is not a scam to get money back or whatever else scammers do.

Since it is too late to file a claim through eBay, you can contact your credit card issuer and ask them to open a dispute for a defective product. Most can help for up to 180 days.

The eBay money back guarantee covers buyers for 30 days after delivery. You are past that coverage. The seller would have to voluntarily offer a refund or replacement.
