Can I withdraw from auction if a seller makes me uncomfortable?
I currently have a highest bid on an item from a seller. I initially won a couple items with him but at prices he felt were too low (which he openly has repeated many times).
He started messaging me every day asking me to bid more on his items, which wouldn’t go up until someone else bid obviously. When I mentioned this suddenly all items began increasing. At a certain price I chose not to continue bidding. One specific item I no longer needed but even though I told him so and someone else was winning he insisted and pushed for me to still buy it and asked i bid specifically for $30-$50 more (I didn’t). Then after the auction closed he conveniently came back at me saying I was being ‘given a second chance’ because the guy who won is upset due to not being a collector for that item and wanted to cancel his order.
he also had asked for my gender multiple times through this transaction (I already told him I don’t discuss gender on sale platforms) and at one point he even requested I submit feedback on the order before the package had even arrived.
Now I am both uncomfortable and suspicious about this behavior. I would prefer to back out of this auction at this point because there’s too many red flags.i have tried to be nice and polite but the last auction I’m winning ends in 2 days and he’s still asking me to bid on other things I’m no longer bidding on. It’s a lot.
have you guys dealt with this before? will ebay let me retract?

The seller sounds clueless about how eBay works and quite unprofessional, but you don't have a valid reason to retract your bid.
Just stop communicating with the seller. The more you respond, the more messages you'll receive from him. You don't have to justify or explain yourself.

OP8 months agoThanks @inceptions . I appreciate you replying to my post so quickly!
Unfortunately though not responding doesn't help..... even now I haven't responded to him in nearly 24 hours and he's still practically begging me to bid on his listings, including ones I told him NO to already in the past. The times i have responded I have been polite and professional but he treats ebay messenger like a text messaging app.....
Initially my thought was if I could get my bid cancelled maybe he would chill out and leave me alone, but sounds like I have to deal with him until the last auctions is over regardless. There's a day and a half left.
I definitely agree, he seems clueless how ebay is supposed to work. Based on interactions i'm now very suspicious someone is helping him bid listings up on purpose (i don't say that lightly) in hopes i'll keep bidding and close at a much higher price. The comment about the angry buyer is what red flagged me the most for that... but logically it'd makes more sense why i've been hounded. Maybe the plan backfired when i stopped bidding.
If anything else happens i'll update but i'm not confident the messaging will stop anytime soon. I still plan to maintain being non responsive.

Don't expect immediate gratification here. He will continue to message you until he gets tired of it or realizes you aren't going to continue playing the game.
Do not respond...just ignore the messages. Every response is encouragement.

OP8 months agoThanks @inceptions . Mini update to this -
I kept quiet until maybe an hour before the auctions was ending. He did continue attempting to message me but I didn't respond to them - not until I realized the item I was winning was missing a piece in the photo but was not disclosed in the auction description. So i responded that i realized part of the item was missing and i'd like it included or was no longer interested.
Then he proved my hunch correct. Apparently his friend was winning other auctions and he said something about asking him to change out if I won. And suddenly i was outbid and that was that.
He's still messaging me asking to bid on his items but i'm not responding. He even relisted the initial item I I spoke of in my initial post. I'll keep ignoring him but may eventually report him to ebay.

Click the three dots in the message to see the report message option. Report him for harassment. You can report each message. I wouldn't wait on this, I would do it now.
