Can I just hand write my own labels and tape it onto package to avoid eBay label fees?

·3 years agoYou can, but you would have to pay the carrier at their retail rates instead of the bulk rates that labels through eBay are eligible for. There are several other disadvantages (you would have to manually upload the tracking number, more likely to make an error in transcribing the name and address or the tracking number etc.)

Right, that is a disadvantage.
But I don't sell a lot yet- just started out.
Also, eBay takes a percentage of shipping costs added into the product price, right?
So I would save money there, although the buyer would pay a little more for the shipping.
Am I correct?

·3 years agoYes eBay applies their fees to the shipping costs. But it doesn't matter where you get your postage the fees will still be charged.

To elaborate, eBay charges fees on the total of what the buyer pays, not on what you pay. Thus, you could get cheap shipping labels or expensive shipping labels, and the fee would still be based on what the buyer paid.
I heartily recommend printing eBay labels.

You would be paying eBay for postage, not for printing a label.
You can print a packing slip and an address label on eBay for free on the "print packing slip" screen. But then you will still need to purchase your own postage somewhere. eBay's postage is often cheaper and the address label is integrated into eBay's postage label.

·2 years agoThe advantage is you would only need to print and paste one label onto the package.

I guess I never put it together that the label was for the postage, and now that I understand- I feel a little stupid.
I think when you start up, the whole thing seems just like a puddle of mud- but you have cleared the water for me. So, thanks again.

Mentor3 years agoIf you do not have a printer, but you have a smart phone, you can save the label as a QR-code, and show that to the postal clerk, and s/he can print out the label for you.
