Can i discover international shipping costs beforehand?
Summary: mo_309313 shared an experience of unexpected high customs taxes and fees on a purchase from Italy to Brazil, which were not clearly anticipated due to lack of experience with international shipping. They considered using eBay's return option but were concerned about the cost implications and the seller's acceptance of the return. comics-scifi-collectibles explained that eBay listings usually state shipping fees and warned about additional customs charges. They advised that refusing a package adheres to eBay's policy, which does not guarantee a refund, and suggested contacting eBay customer service for further assistance.
Hi, i just did my first international buy and it's been a doozy (probably because of my lack of experience in international shipping). It was not a eIS shipping.
I just bought this item from Italy (i'm from Brazil) and well, i did the level 1 noob thing: saw the free shipping and got it.

It was all fun and games when the product arrived i got jumpscared: there was a brutal tax and a shipping cost that i didn't know (45 bucks). 1 euro = 1,25 dollars = 5,1 real
Brazil has an agressive international taxing, but i belived it would be something close to 300 to 500 real, instead i got 990 R$ in taxes: I am literally paying more taxes than product.

Of course i have the option to return the product through Ebay regret option, and not pay the import tariff, but now i wonder if i will have to pay to return it to Italy. And as the title says: was it possible to know that shipping price beforehand or people simpy accept the shipping fee as it comes?

Mentor1 week ago@mo_309313 The listing should have had the shipping stated.
For the customs fees it usually just says fees may due prior to delivery or similar.
What's the item number and the eBay site that you purchased from? This is eBay.com the US site. You say you bought it from Italy... did you make the purchase on https://www.ebay.it/

Mentor1 week ago@mo_309313 The listing appears to be set up correctly and does have free shipping to Brazil.
However this disclaimer is what you needed to pay attention to>
"International shipment of items may be subject to customs processing and additional charges"
FED EX and UPS both charged brokerage fees in addition to the customs fees.
If you return it you would only get a refund of the price shown on the listing, not the after sale additional customs fees.
So sorry you had such high fees added on.

OP1 week agoIt's ok, UPS is retaining my package, i didn't pay it. I have another worry: i only get refunds if the product is indeed back at the sender. If UPS talks with the sender and he refuses to get it, will i not get the refunds? I am willing to pay any fee up to 50% product cost in order to get 100% refund value (at this point paying to get the refund became the best scenario).

Mentor1 week ago@mo_309313 eBay policy on the US site states that the seller does not have to refund you if you refuse the package.
eBay.com policy>
eBay Italy policy which may apply since that is where the seller is located>
As you can see the policies are very similar on both sites.
By not picking it up from customs you are refusing the package.
You can try contacting customer service on social media and see if they have any advice. eBay agents can not change the site rules though.
