Can a seller post an item for sale that they do not have?
I just had a purchased cancelled by a seller who said they searched online retailers and could not find the item they listed for sale. This has to violate eBay policies, no?

Mentor3 months agoSounds like a typical drop shipper. Someone who purchases the item after it sells. Not a good business model.

OP3 months agoSeems like something that should be against eBay policies.

OP3 months agoYes. For sure. How do I report it to eBay? Thanks for your help!

Mentor3 months agoNo need to report it as the seller received the defect from Ebay when they cancelled your order, therefore essentially self-reporting themself. Too many defects from Ebay may get their selling activity restricted.

OP3 months agoSo eBay knows they are selling items they are subsequently trying to source online? I would think the cancellation is not that specific.

Mentor3 months agoThe seller received a transaction defect from Ebay for cancelling your order.

OP3 months agoWhat does that mean?

Mentor3 months agoOn eBay, a defect is a mark on a seller’s record that shows there was an issue with a transaction. It’s basically a “black mark” that can bring down your seller rating and impact your account standing.
