A seller can end an auction at any time early which (unless s/he cancels all bids) results in a sale to the highest bidder at the showing "current bid" amount (not his/her hidden maximum or some other amount promised--the price cannot be changed once the auction ends with a winner).
What exactly is the situation--have you made an offer for a particular amount, or have you placed a bid and the seller sent you a message saying that without any prompting by you (did s/he say why?), or what?
