Can’t appeal
I ordered a handleset and receive the wrong size, so I put in a return request but the seller declined. Now eBay won’t help me appeal my case because it’s closed. I feel like the seller needs to refund me because the item didn’t match the description. Am I wrong? Also I cannot talk to an actual person because I can’t get past the automated response system. They won’t let me appeal my case because it’s closed.

Normally the following is how to handle an item that is not as described:
You are protected by the eBay Money Back Guarantee for 30 days from the date of receipt: eBay Money Back Guarantee policy
Go to the item in your Purchase history and file a RETURN using the reason "Does not match pictures or description". eBay will issue you a pre-paid return shipping label regardless of the Seller's return policy. You return the item and the Seller will have 2 days to refund you. Failing that you go back to the claim and ask eBay to step in and force the refund.
You can report a Seller here: Report an issue with a seller | eBay
If that process fails and eBay blocks you from filing any kind of return for a refund then you will have to pursue a dispute with your funding source - PayPal, credit card, etc.
If the Seller did not offer returns and depending on the reason you selected they can decline the return. That is most likely what happened to you. However, per the first part of this post eBay has some work arounds via the MBG.
