California Sales Tax charged to buyer, not in California. Why? Both Buyer and Seller from Oregon

I sold a Comic Book for aprox $550 to a customer by accepting his offer, Instructed to send invoice.

I saw that he was charged California Sales Tax of over $50. for the book. It didn't effect me. but when I went to ship the book I noticed the buyer lived in Oregon as do I, Oregon does not have any sales tax, we get taxed through income and property. Is Ebay a California business? and every transaction gets taxed by California? or is someone just stealing money in a new clever way? those two options are not necessarily any different. but I am curious. it may completely change where I do business.

Where did eBay tell you to you ship it to? eBay collects sales tax on the place of delivery (the shipping address given by the buyer at checkout).
