Buying from overseas

Question

I want to buy a $300. Item from overseas. It will be sent from Japan to America. The seller is telling me that I am responsible for any tariffs or taxes the government may impose.
does anyone have any information on this that they would care to share, please? & Thank you!

eBay will collect any sales tax your state imposes, regardless of where the item is coming from. It is where it is going to that controls that.

There should be no import tax or fees if sent through the mail. You can import up to $800 per day without tax.

If sent DHL or fedex, etc, there will probably be a brokerage fee for them to bring the item through customs for you.
