Buying a car
I have found a car I want to buy. I have messaged the seller several times and have gotten no responses to my questions. They live up north and I am in the south so am trying to coordinate a mechanic or technician to assess the mechanical functions of the car for me. How do I contact the seller if they do not provide a phone number or email address in their eBay contact info, AND do not respond to messages!

Mentor3 years agoYou will not be able to contact the seller via phone or email until you actually purchase the vehicle. Since motor vehicle sales are non-binding, either party can walk away after the sale.

It's been many years since I bought or sold a car on eBay. I'm sure many of their rules and practices have changed.

Unlike other listings on the site, where pre-sale contact is not allowed, vehicle listings (and heavy equipment listings) do allow the seller to add contact information within the listing description. Perhaps only those of us who have actually listed a vehicle are aware of this deviation from eBay's standard policy.
In addition to being allowed to add a phone number to the description in those capital asset categories, there is also an option for the seller to hide a phone number within the "Contact seller" FAQs, under "other", if the seller wants less exposure for that number. Check in that area to see if a phone# is listed.
As one example, this dealer is allowed an extra contact button right below the buy button (in addition to what displays down in the description).
Private sellers may not have this "obvious" option and might only be able to use the old style "contact seller" link that would then display a phone number in the "other" FAQ, if the seller is knowledgeable enough to add it.
