Buyers Retracting Bids
Why does eBay allow people to retract bids? The buyer will say they entered the wrong amount, but never place a corrected bid. Shouldn't they have to place a new bid? I had one buyer do it numerous times over numerous days. I had about 100 Auctions going and they placed bids on 24 different auctions and then retracted them all. I know now that I can block them from future auctions. But still, why are they allowed to do this?

Mentor2 years agoBuyers do sometimes bid the wrong amount and may have a good reason to retract a bid.
It is in eBay's interest (and the interest of sellers in general) to allow buyers to retract bids in some cases, even if some buyers may abuse the process.
In practice, buyers may not notice an incorrect bid amount until bidding rises above the amount the buyer had originally intended. At that point, even if the buyer wants to rebid, it is impossible to bid lower than the current bid amount showing.
Attempting to force a buyer to pay for an unwanted or mistaken bid rarely leads to a satisfactory outcome for anyone involved, least of all the seller.

OP2 years agoI do understand that mistakes happen ($1999 when you wanted to do $19.99), but for the same account to do it a few different times over a month and even on 24 auctions in one day, that is not a mistake. eBay should not allow that to happen, as both eBay and the seller are missing out on making money.

Mentor2 years agoIf a user has done this to you more than once, you should consider adding that user to your blocked buyer list yourself rather than waiting for eBay to take action.
