Buyers not paying after bidding. Ghost buyers
Recently I’ve had several sales where people bid, some being last minute, but never pay or respond afterwards. I have a sale currently that is waiting for payment. I messaged them just after sale letting them know I could send the item same day if they paid; no response. I waited 24 hours and messaged again. This time they said they were traveling and they’d pay when they had a chance. 12 hours later I followed up again. They responded fairly upset and said I was being pushy and were purposely going to wait the full time to pay and also leave a bad review. It’s always odd that they have time to message back but not to hit that pay now button. Is there a way to stop these ghost bids? Now I’m sitting on an item that may or may not sell to someone that stated they will leave negative feedback. What should I do? Thanks in advance

Mentor2 years agoIf the buyer has not paid by day 4, on day 5 the seller can file a Cancellation with the reason Buyer didn't pay. The seller gets his/her FVF credited, the buyer gets an unpaid strike recorded on his account, no one can leave feedback. Two or more unpaid strikes, and the buyer will find it difficult to bid/buy from sellers who block buyers with 2 or more unpaid strikes. Do you have your Buyer Blocks in place?

As a new seller, you are ripe for scammers. List as fixed price with Immediate Payment Required (you will need to switch to the advanced/business tool for that option, which is located in the upper right corner of the Quick Listing Tool), no Best Offers, and your listing will stay active until someone actually pays for the item.
