Buyers not paying.

Question

I have accepted an offer on item very early in the morning yesterday, but the buyer has not paid me. Why is this allowed on eBay? Are they going back to the 1960s and offering a layaway plan for the negligent buyer?

Generally eBay gives buyers 4 full days to pay before a seller can cancel for non-payment.

With offers the item is not sold until the buyer pays. When a seller accepts an offer the buyer is notified and instructed to pay. The item is not sold until the buyer actually pays. This is why it will not be in your sold items and you can not send an invoice, eBay has already done that. This is more like the way buy it now with immediate payment works. Since the item is not sold until payment and still active another buyer can purchase at full price. This information is also in the payment message the buyer receives.

This is meant to cut down on sellers having items removed from sale while waiting on a buyer to pay and then having to relist if they don't. Item continues to be listed until paid for.

Sellers have the option to require buyers to enter their payment information before they make an offer (or bid on an auction). If the seller accepts the offer the buyer is automatically charged.

You can set the requirement for both offers and auctions in your buyer management settings.
