I have collected US coins most of my life and have been an active buyer and seller on EBay.
I am seeing possibly hundreds of listings with ridiculous price gouging attempts that are potentially praying on novice buyers; or worse, these sellers are intentionally scamming. In many cases items that are worth less than $10 selling for more than $1000-saying they are rare (when common), and other vague or misleading descriptions that are not the case. This affects honest, legitimate sellers and buyers and is going unchecked!
I could provide examples but I notice it is all over-Pennie’s, nickels and more. BEWARE because it is not being filtered, unwarned and without eBay calling these out.

There is no real alternative to buyers knowing what they buy and buying what they know.
If a buyer does not know how much an item is worth, letting the seller dictate the price may be a big mistake.

OP2 months agoUnderstand your point and I probably wouldn’t care to mention but this is a huge widespread issue-at least for one item, the entire 1st two pages are crazy gouging attempts with sellers with little or no sales history; and for the average novice collector, difficult to find the honest prices as some are almost affordable.
I haven’t checked other denominations and would be willing to bet it’s running rampant. They can’t all be a coincidence, appears like a ring of scammers artificially inflating prices. Price Gouging at its finest!
But to your point, anyone who knows ligit price would move on-
