Buyer wants to switch to local delivery
Hello,
I had a buyer who reached out to me on one of my auction listings asking if I would be willing to meet for delivery to save shipping costs because we live in the same town. I’m a new seller and said that I would be happy to but need to figure out how to make the changes through ebay first. He went ahead and put a bid on my item ($200 below asking) and sent me a message saying that we can “work it out on the back endâ€.
I looked into things more through the ebay help section and tried editing the listing to include the local pickup option, however it won’t let me modify shipping options now, I’m assuming that’s because there is a bid on the item.
I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to “take care of things on the back end†like the buyer is suggesting because I don’t think ebay would release my funds if the item doesn’t get shipped and also, I’m concerned that the buyer would be able to claim non-delivery after taking the item with no local delivery QR code for me to scan through ebay.
Any suggestions on what I can do?

Since the auction has a bid you can not revise it to change the shipping. You are concerns are correct that it is not good to change the delivery method post sale. eBay requires you to use the method you listed the item with to have any seller protection.
What you will need to do, if the buyer wins, is to cancel the sale and then list again including the local pick up option so the buyer can purchase again. You can list it as buy it now for the winning bid price. Be sure to use problem with buyer's address as the reason, you will not get a defect for canceling.
