Buyer wants to return laptop for defect clearly stated in listing — can eBay still force the return?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from experienced sellers on the best way to handle this return case properly. I sold a MacBook Pro that was clearly listed with an internal screen issue. In both the title and description, I stated that the screen had damage/vertical lines, that it was best used with an external monitor, and that it was being sold AS-IS due to the screen issue. I also noted no returns in the listing. The photos also showed the display problem. The laptop itself was otherwise described as functional, and that is accurate.
The buyer purchased it after seeing all of that, and during the process was already asking for additional price reductions even after the item had been lowered and then purchased. Now the buyer has opened a return under “arrived damaged,” saying the screen is completely black. My concern is that the screen issue was the exact defect already disclosed in the listing, so this does not seem like new shipping damage or an undisclosed problem. It feels like the buyer may be using the return system to get around the clearly disclosed condition of the item.
I’m trying to understand the smartest next step as a seller. Should I accept the return and then fight it afterward if the item comes back in different condition, or is there a stronger way to respond now based on the fact that the defect was fully disclosed before purchase? I have screenshots of the title, description, and photos showing the issue was described multiple times. I’d really appreciate advice from sellers who have dealt with buyers using “arrived damaged” or “not as described” claims on items that were actually described correctly. Thanks in advance.

Mentor6 months agoYou did NOT list the item condition "As Is", you listed it as "Used".
The definition of "used" is: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used.
The buyer was fully covered by the Ebay Money Back Guarantee since the item was not as described (condition). The Ebay Money Back Guarantee overrides your "No returns" policy.
Comply with the return request to avoid consequences from Ebay.

OP6 months agoI put in all caps" READ being sold as is "and needs a new display unit. and can be used with an external monitor . a said this multiple time and showed it in the photos. so im still screwed ? how can that be . ?

The word "READ" in your title does not supersede the fact that you chose the wrong condition.
