Buyer wants to change shipping address. Is this safe to do?
I sold an old Nintendo game with a standard auction, and the winning bidder sent me messages asking me to change the shipping address, saying he put in an old address. Is this safe to do? When I click on "edit" for the ship-to, eBay throws up a message "You may not be covered by the eBay Seller Protection Policy if you send to a different address."
The buyer has zero feedback, so I am reluctant to do this. Curious what the risk is or if anyone has experience with this situation.

Mentor2 years agoNo, you cannot change the address. Sellers must ship to the address provided by the buyer. Make sure this is the buyer who is messaging you. You will need to cancel the transaction (problem with buyer's address) and relist and have them provide the correct address through eBay check out.

OP2 years agoActually, yes you can change the shipping address. Under the ship-to on the "Ship your order" page, there is an "edit" link. When I click that, it brings up a window where the address can be changed. That is where the alert I was referring to in my original question comes up.
My question is whether or not this is safe or advisable to do, if requested by the buyer.

Mentor2 years agoYou will NOT be protected if the buyer opens an item not received case because you sent it elsewhere. It is not advised to do so.

Mentor2 years agoAre you absolutely certain the message is from your buyer?
Changing an address for a current order:
Buyers can change the shipping address at checkout right up until payment is sent. After that, the shipping address for that transaction cannot be changed.
The seller is required to ship to the address that comes with the payment or lose all protection in the event of an "item not received" case. Scammers often send messages urging the seller to ship to another address, so sellers are rightly wary of such requests.
The seller can cancel the transaction and relist to allow the buyer to purchase again and provide the correct address, but sellers are not required to do any of that.

OP2 years agoYes, I am certain. The username of the person who sent the message is the same username as the winning bidder. He already paid, and then sent several messages asking me to change the address. I replied telling him that since he has zero feedback, I'm really not comfortable doing this. The address he asked for it to be changed to is in the same city (I looked at both on Google Maps.) He wrote back saying the old address is his landlord, and that he'd ask for him/her to watch out for a package to be delivered if I decide not to change it.
Seems legit to me, but I guess you never know.
