buyer wants to arrange their own shipping
I gave a buyer a quote on shipping charges from Ebay shipping calculator to the UK. The item weighs around 9lbs and is 33" long. They want to purchase item and arrange their own shipping, should I allow this?

Mentor2 years agoSellers set the shipping not the buyers. So many things can go wrong otherwise.

Mentor2 years agoWhoever arranges the shipping controls where the package goes and whether there is valid tracking to the original address that eBay recognizes.
If you allow the buyer to arrange shipping, you may have no basis to fight an "item not received" case if the buyer is also the sender of record and can have the package redirected to another address "at the sender's request". You might also be on the hook for shipping if the buyer provides a shipping account number that the buyer is not entitled to be using if that comes to light much later on.
It is better to remain in control over shipping as a seller and be sure that the shipping method has valid tracking to the buyer's address submitted with the payment, that purchases over $750 have a signature requirement, and that there is sufficient insurance.
