buyer wants item shipped to a different address

Question

Auction ended. I prepared to ship the item to the USA address listed in Ebay's Shipping Details. Buyer is saying the Shipping Details address is not his, and wants the item shipped to a different address in Canada.

You need to ship it to the address that eBay has on file for that user. Otherwise, you are not covered by eBay's seller protection. You can message the buyer that you cannot ship it to a different address than what is on file with eBay, Tell them that you will cancel the order and refund them. Also tell them that you will relist the item that they can repurchase after correcting their address in their eBay account.

To cancel the order, go to your Orders and Awaiting Shipment - click on the down arrow to the right of View Order Details and on the drop down click on Cancel Order - click on Select a Reason and then select Issue With Buyer's Shipping Address and click Next. The option to have your item relisted for free will be selected, you can change that if you want to relisted manually. Click Next. Your buyer will be refunded and your item will be relisted or marked Unsold depending if you selected the relist option or not.

If you ship your item to a different address than what is on file with eBay, potentially, the buyer could file a Not Received Item case and get a full refund of their payment. You will lose your payment and your item. You don't have any recourse because you didn't use the registered eBay address.

I have had this happen to me several times. I flagged those sales as Scams because the buyers never responded to my message nor did they re-purchased the item. You need to be very careful these days with all the scams out there.

You are required to ship to the address provided by Ebay in order to keep your seller protection.

If you have verified that it actually is your buyer that sent the message, you can tell them to request a cancellation of the transaction and then they can repurchase the item using the correct address.
