Buyer Vs. Seller / Good Vs. Evil

Summary: 5star_general_seller raises concerns about eBay's handling of disputes, suggesting that the platform favors buyers and inadequately addresses fraud. They express frustration that buyers can repeatedly create fake accounts, exploiting the Money Back Guarantee to commit fraud without proper checks. lady_madonna explains that sellers must follow specific return procedures if a buyer files a valid claim. 5star_general_seller suggests enhanced identity verification and fraud prevention measures, criticizing eBay for its current lack of protective actions for sellers.

Why does ebay.com give the seller the benefit of the doubt when both parties have different stories for a dispute?

If anyone can create a buyer account with nothing more than any Valid credit card # and any assortment of Letters and and address to receive the Loot and Buyers have to prove their identity and maintain their metrics? One gets suspended and the other makes another fake account.

It depends on the type of dispute and the reason for the filing of the dispute. Ebay has a Money Back Guarantee for buyer if the buyer has a VALID reason covered by the Ebay MBG.

    More details?

well too many scenarios to mention but It just seems that the Money Back Guarantee and item not as described is a Fail Proof Method Exploited and Yet nothing is done to prevent this type of fraud from being committed. It just seems with AI and 7,200 Employees Ebay could be doing a little better to help sellers with this wave of fraud and isnt getting better anytime soon if nothing is done about it.

If the buyer files a Return Request with a valid reason per the Ebay Money Back Guarantee, the seller is required to approve the return, provide a return shipping label and refund the buyer when the returned item is delivered.

Yes , A Fraud Specialists Dream come True. I dont understand why its so easy to create account after account with no attempt to thwart fraud.

    1. Strengthen Identity Verification

    • Require multiple identity proofs: Ask for government-issued IDs, utility bills, or bank statements that match the name and address provided TransUnion.

    • Use AI-powered identity risk signals: Tools like Experian’s or TransUnion’s systems can flag synthetic identities by detecting inconsistencies in name, address, and other attributes Experian+1.

    • Check against public records: Verify the name against court records, business registrations, and social media profiles to spot discrepancies Experian.

    2. Implement Real-Time Behavioral Analysis

    • Monitor account creation patterns: Detect unusual activity such as rapid sign-ups, multiple accounts from the same IP, or registration from high-risk locations DataDome.

    • Leverage AI fraud detection: Systems like DataDome can analyze registration behavior in real time to block suspicious accounts before they’re fully set up DataDome.

    3. Secure Registration Endpoints

    • Enforce strong authentication: Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) and CAPTCHA to prevent bots from automating account creation DataDome+1.

    • Limit account creation per device/IP: Block or delay sign-ups from new or untrusted devices/IPs to slow down bot attacks DataDome.

    4. Protect Against Impersonation

    • Use email authentication: Implement SPF, DKIM, and DMARC to prevent spoofing of your business email, which can be used to lure victims into giving credentials Federal Trade Commission.

    • Train staff and customers: Educate users to avoid phishing and not share personal information via email or text Federal Trade Commission.

    5. Monitor and Respond

    • Set up alerts for suspicious activity: Intrusion prevention software and fraud monitoring tools can flag anomalies and trigger manual review Federal Trade Commission.

    • Act quickly on suspected fraud: If a fake account is detected, suspend it immediately and notify affected parties.

    6. Keep Security Up to Date

    • Patch systems regularly: Apply updates to prevent exploitation of known vulnerabilities Federal Trade Commission.

    • Use intrusion detection/prevention systems: These can catch and block malicious traffic before it creates accounts Federal Trade Commission.

Ebay does 0 of these things to prevent creating unlimited new accounts.

IT just seems like Ebay does nothing to help the seller and has only declined in customer service since ~2013.

Thanks for the response, at times i feel like i just need to vent after feeling back stabbed by your employer and left to rot while collecting off my Loss.
