Buyer trying to return when I have a no return policy and their complaint isn’t covered by guarantee
I’m a new seller. A buyer purchase $1000 of GPU cards (several orders). Wants to return them now because he says “they don’t have the right drivers to play modern games like fortnight.”
His claim is wrong. Every card I ship is tested and benchmarked. My ad never started it would work with fortnight or modern games (it will). My listing stated “no returns”. The buyer never asked any questions prior to purchase, didn’t start with one order, just made a huge order…now I’m going to get ripped off and it feels like eBay’s policies protect him ripping me off. What can be done?

Mentor5 months ago@rchaser42012. Just wanted to add after you are done with the refund then I recommend adding the buyer to your blocked buyer list

Mentor5 months agoHi @rchaser42012
When you say he "... made a huge order ..." do you mean he purchased 4 items on March 10th? Or perhaps 2 items on March 9th? Those seem to be the only 2 days recently where more than one item was purchased.
Buyers can lie about a reason for a return and eBay has numerous reasons that bypass your No return policy. As a matter of fact, the No return policy is limited and we have seen this situation repeat itself over and over, especially on new Selling accounts. New Sellers are targets for scams.
So, if a bogus return happens the FIRST thing you need to do is use the Report Buyer link on the sold item and alert eBay of a problem. If you can do that on every item they purchased then do so. Next see if any Seller protections apply based on what is returned to you: Seller protections | eBay

OP5 months agoI mean that he ordered 5 quantity of one item. One item is 6 pieces. $900 of GPUs without asking one question and then he says they don’t work for Fortnite. Didn’t bother to ask any questions before purchasing. It’s verifiably untrue that these graphics don’t work with fortnight. Power color, red devil, RX 570 4G. I test and benchmark every card before I ship it. This is a scam.

Mentor5 months ago@rchaser42012. The important question is what reason did they select on the return request?
Did they choose a buyers remorse reason such as changed mind, found better price, etc.
Or did they choose a not as described return reason such as doesn't work, doesn't match description or photos, etc. If yes then you MUST accept the return.
Your return policy only applies to remorse returns. The eBay Money Back Guarantee over rules your return policy.

OP5 months agoThey selected “doesn’t work or defective”
“I was happy to see these cards were in good shape, but after testing one of these GPUs, the drivers were found to be not supported by modern games such as Fortnite. I would like to return for a full refund. Only one of the 6 packages received were opened. Please see pictures.“
it’s absolutely not true. It’s verifiably untrue.

Mentor5 months ago@rchaser42012. I understand that this is frustrating however here's how return requests work >>>
If the buyer files a refund request SAYING that the item is not as described ( Doesn't work defective) then you need to accept the return and issue the return shipping label.
If you do not accept the return willingly then the buyer can ask eBay to step in and force a refund. You do not get your seller's fees back, you get a defect and the buyer may be allowed to keep the item.
If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them but it doesn't get your money back:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/report-issue-buyer?id=4084&st=
Sellers have protection for return abuse if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.

OP5 months agoI appreciate the time you are taking to educate me. It really is helpful. And…unbelievable **bleep**.
What do you mean here by “doesn’t get your money back”?: “If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them but it doesn't get your money back“
comics-scifi-collectibles
Mentor5 months agoI mean that the report goes on the buyers record. If they abuse the eBay Money Back Guarantee too many times then they may lose their return privileges or face other consequences.
I am trying to warn you that if you fight the return that eBay will step in and force a refund. You will be out your money and possibly the items too.
rchaser42012
OP5 months agoThat was clear and helpful.
Frustrating that the policy protects this buyer.

OP5 months agoSo can I report the buyer without being affected in some way? He’s being dishonest. His main complaint is that the GPUs don’t work for a game, whom is verifiably false.
why does eBay allow you to mark items as “no returns accepted” and then allow returns?
His claim isn’t protected (he received his items, there was no misrepresentation). I just don’t see how that can benefit him.

·5 months agoI know it’s frustrating, but if a buyer SAYS an item is not as described, eBay will side with them 100% of the time, and you will be refunding, either voluntarily or involuntarily.

Mentor5 months ago@rchaser42012. You can and should report the buyer. As we have all said you need to accept the return or it will go badly for you.

"Reporting" the Buyer if they file a bogus return and force you pay for return shipping and they send you back a box of wood chips or something other than what you shipped them. That "Reporting" process is recommended by eBay with no harm to YOUR account.
So if you don't get back what you shipped them then your Seller protections "may" apply whereby you can withhold the original shipping they paid (unless you offered Free shipping) and you might be able to withhold up to 50% of the total item price they paid. I provided a link upthread but will add it here for your convenience again: Seller protections | eBay
Also and as @comics-scifi-collectibles mentioned, with the No return policy if you decline a return request or try fighting it then the Buyer can ask eBay to step in and force YOU to refund the Buyer PLUS the Buyer keeps the items ... so you wind up being out the money and out the items. The Seller protections as described above and covered on that page link simply help Sellers cut their loss when they are scammed by a Buyer.
