Buyer thinks I misled them on shipping time after adding free economy to my listing
Background: I added free economy shipping to all my listings a few weeks ago. Upon checking some listings I noticed they all said 3-4 days shipping time. I could not find a way to reach eBay support so I came to this community board and asked about it. The response was that I was seeing the estimated shipping time from my own zip code and that a buyer would see a shipping time based on their zip code. That made sense to me.
Issue: A buyer just emailed very upset that I misled them with 3-4 days shipping. I am in Arizona and they are in Tennessee. Why would they see a 3-4 day estimate with economy? I am very concerned that they are the first of many complaints to come as I saw a big uptick in sales after I added the free shipping.

Mentor3 years agoThe listing shows 3-4 day shipping from Tennessee to Arizona. Why do you (or why does the buyer) think it's not 3-4 days?
Free shipping has nothing to do with transit time. The estimated delivery date is calculated based on carrier, class of service, distance between buyer and seller, and any handling time you've added to the listing.
The 3-4 days are business days (not including Sundays and holidays).

OP3 years agoThe "free" shipping = economy shipping on my listings. I understand it does not include handling time, weekends and holidays. But an estimated 3-4 days in transit for economy shipping seems very optimistic for the USPS. I would expect it to be more like 5-10 days.

Mentor3 years agoYou can go to usps.com and use the calculate a price tool to see what usps estimates - after you enter the info and select calculate, they will show you available services and estimated delivery times.
eBay uses your actual shipping performance in addition to carrier estimates to create the delivery dates. So since you have not used economy before, they are probably considering your usual shipping method in addition to the usps estimates.
It happens to me, too, since I upgrade from ground to priority whenever I can - it is often just a few pennies more. So the estimates for ground on my items are on the very optimistic side.

Mentor3 years agoThe 3-4 days DOES include handling time; it does NOT include Sundays and holidays. Did you change the handling time on your listing? Because now I'm seeing an estimated delivery of between 3/13 to 3/15 which is an outrageously long transit time. You're showing the same even for Priority Mail.
What class of service are you actually using for the free shipping? If you know that in advance, you should select that instead of economy to be more precise on what the buyer should be shown to expect.

OP3 years agoI put my listings on vacation mode this morning as I am about to leave on a trip. Those dates line up with my return.
