Buyer sent a note: Hi mate can you post the serial number (not the tracking)
I sold a laptop. The buyer sent a note: Hi mate can you post the serial number (not the tracking). It helps us track it once we get it. Also please don’t post pictures but text only so we can search jnside the text. Thank you
The serial number was already in the listing.
I do not understand this note. It is misleading.
I do not feel comfortable doing the sale.
The address is located at a building with 4 businesses there. The other businesses have suite numbers this one does not.
I am concerned that the buyer is attempting to scam me somehow. Possibly with the item not getting delivered to the proper address. A mix up somehow with the other addresses there. Also, suggesting not to post tracking number but to POST the serial number - just sounds bizarre.
HOW should I precede with this? The buyer also left negative feedback for three other sellers in this year and six months, past month. I am not sure about this at all. No one has ever asked this of me.

Message the Buyer and:
-Advise them if they are using a Freight Forwarding company that you can write the eBay Item number on the outside of the box. I get this request from sales made to Buyers who use forwarding companies.
-As for tracking advise them that eBay provides tracking in their Purchase history and they can check that status anytime they want
-Advise them that any information that is NOT already supplied in the listing, in the order details or in their Purchase history will not be provided as it represents additional work not included in the original sale.
On a side note the, "Hi Mate" is common to those living in Australia. If you do not sell Internationally then they may be using a forwarding company. Check their Feedback history, it will show their country of origin.

OP8 months agoThank you for your response. The buyer shows being located oversees and shows an international fee with the sale.
The address is a building with five businesses there - one being a shipping company.
Does eBay protect the sale once the item shows delivered to this shipping company address in the US?
Would I need to place signature confirmation on the shipping to help make sure someone at the appropriate address received the package?
Would I be protected from the buyer stating that he did not receive the item or from him trying to return the item for some bizarre reason?

You are ONLY responsible to the US address NOT the Buyer's country. If you have tracking on the transaction and delivery is confirmed to the US address then you are protected.
If the Buyer files a return you are ONLY responsible to the US address, the Buyer has to get the item back to the Forwarding company (NOT "shipping" company), they will have issues facilitating a return through the forwarding company.

Mentor8 months ago@frugalshop1 This is odd.
I would reply that the serial number is on the listing and that eBay tracks sales by tracking numbers.
Also keep ALL messages in eBay messages so that there is a record of your messages for eBay.

OP8 months agoHi,
I asked the buyer to confirm the prior request on the ebay message system. I did not receive a message for two days to I got with Ebay on cancelling the order.
Later I noticed that the buyer had posted a message on my seller page stating: POST the serial number here. (And there was a button for "Reply")
This message was not in my email notifications, nor did it show up in the Ebay messages. It only showed when I clicked on : MY Ebay, then Selling, then almost the to bottom of the page it shows " messages from buyers" .
If I had responded to that message on the seller page, would Ebay see those messages? It seems like it does not show up anywhere else. Have you ever seen that?
Thanks.
Is there a way to bypass the Ebay messages and post it to the seller's page?
