Buyer returning a different Item - Disappointed in ebay
Just want to express my disappointment in ebay allowing a buyer to return a clearly different and broken item in exchange for the high quality, working item I sold. The buyer purchased a pre-owned NVIDIA 3070 Founder Edition graphics card from me ($300 item), which was the Platinum cased card as shown in the pictures. The buyer requested a return and included a picture of a clearly old graphics card saying it was the card he received and was broken upon arrival.
When I questioned the user on why the picture of the card he sent when requesting the return was clearly a different graphics card (different color, visible damage, etc.) the response from the buyer was that when the picture was taken, he was "shining a flashlight on the card as it was in a dark room" and this "made the card appear different in the picture". Not to be captain obvious here, but shining a light on a reflective platinum colored surface never makes the item appear to be matte black.
Despite the obvious scam, ebay sided with the buyer and now I am out $300.
Do better ebay!

Mentor3 years agoThis is how it works, and unfortunately there are unscrupulous people out there (as there are everywhere else). You can report the buyer to get it on record, but eBay cannot know what you sent versus what the buyer received, so the buyer has the edge.
You can find the report link in the case or in the dropdown next to the transaction in your Orders list. If the buyer is making a habit of scamming, eBay will take action. That won't help you in this case, but will stop him in the future.
