Buyer returned damaged item, got full refund, and left negative feedback – what are my rights?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice regarding a recent return case.
I sold an ECU that was fully tested, sealed, and working before shipment. The buyer opened a return under “not as described.” I accepted the return, and once I received the item back, it clearly showed signs of being opened and physically tampered with (broken housing clips and casing separation). It also no longer communicates during bench testing.
Despite this, eBay issued a full refund to the buyer after tracking confirmed delivery.
On top of that, the buyer left a negative feedback claiming the item was already opened, which is not accurate and does not reflect the original condition when shipped.
My questions:
- Do I have any rights or protection when an item is returned in a different/damaged condition?
- Is there any way to recover losses in this situation?
- Can this type of feedback be removed if it is misleading or inaccurate?
I have photo evidence and test verification showing the condition before and after.
Any guidance from experienced sellers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
