Buyer Returned an Item when I had "No Returns
PLEASE HELP!!!! I once in a while sell something on Ebay.
I posted a "Blue Backpack", Buyer purchased it. I stated NO RETURNS. Buyer was able top get around the "No Returns" and was able to return the backpack because she didn't like the "color of blue" the backpack was. Ebay was Absolutely No Help! Has anyone else have this happen to them? How did they get around the "NO RETURNS" policy. How were they able to use the "Money Back Guarantee" policy. The backpack is Blue.....she returned it because it was Blue???? I don't get where I went wrong with this. And Again.....Ebay was NO HELP!!!!!

OP7 months agoThank You for Your Help......Greatly Appreciated. This is so confusing......Plain English "No Returns" isn't so hard to understand but apparently like stated.....they have ways around it.

The fault lies with eBay since the default listing tool setting is No returns along with 2 Day Handling time. eBay should have the return policy field BLANK with a drop down menu AND an explanation of what each Return policy covers.
They do that on the Conditions section of the listing tools for choices like, New, New Other, Used, etc. They explain what their definition of each of those is.
I lost count of the number of times I have read Sellers coming here and saying, "But I don't accept returns!", clearly thinking that setting means they won't get any and that they will be able to keep all the money they make on a sale.

Your account dates back to 2004, that's around 22 years. eBay's Money Back Guarantee has been around for a very, very long time with numerous reasons that bypass the No returns policy. You should familiarize yourself with if for future reference: eBay Money Back Guarantee policy
eBay has No returns as the default setting on their listing tools, it sends the wrong message to both Sellers and Buyers:
-We read many Sellers here saying they don't accept returns yet get them anyway. They think they are immune to returns which is not true at all, it has limited protection and many learn that the hard way. Also, No returns does NOT mean No refunds.
-Buyers who are not familiar with the eBay MBG may pass up a Seller who uses the No return policy so Sellers may be losing sales and don't even realize it.
Sellers also have protections that may help them on a bogus return: Seller protections | eBay
Sellers can use the Report Buyer link on their transaction on a bogus return.

Mentor7 months agoIf the return was forced on you, it was because the buyer lied and selected Item Not as Described as the reason for the return, which overrides your no-returns policy. If you want the item back before refunding, accept the return.
After you get it back, REPORT the buyer for abuse of the ebay MBG.
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/resolving-buyer-issues/report-issue-buyer?id=4084&st=12&pos=3&quer...
Then after you report the buyer you appeal the case:

Note it is always best to allow returns where the buyer at least pays the return shipping rather than have no returns, which entices the buyer to lie about the reason forcing you to pay for the return.
