Buyer returned a different item
Please help. I sold a beautiful Biscotti NWT 2T dress on Jan 7, 2026 and the buyer wanted to return the item on Jan 31, 2026. The reason for the return was doesn't match description or photos. I received the item on Feb 9, 2026. I knew right away that something was wrong because the package was smaller and lighter. It was a long sleeve, darker beige dress. Nothing like what I sent her. I reported the buyer the same day but have not heard back from eBay. What are my options? I don't know what to do. Thank you,

Then you can try asking eBay to step in but chances are they will just rule in the buyers favor as it comes down to your word against theirs.
If eBay steps in because you ask or the buyer asks and they rule against you then they will force a refund, you will get a defect and you will not get your sellers fees back.
For future listings you may wish to offer Free Returns, I know it can be hard with clothing items though. With free returns you can deduct up to 50% if the buyer returns a different item. Not great but better than a full refund.
