Buyer return requested
the buyer requested a return, so I purchased an eBay return label. Then the buyer sent me a message that they wanted to keep the item, and just wanted the shipping fee refunded, but I already paid for the return label. Is there a way to cancel the return label? Or can you just refund that amount to the seller since I don't want to "lose" the $3.46 I already paid in order to refund that amount to the buyer? Or isn't the buyer allowed to request a refund of the shipping cost while keeping the item?

OP3 years agoContacting customer service absolutely solved the problem by confirming that I would not be charged for the label unless the buyer scanned it. I informed the buyer to cancel the return at which point I offered a refund of the shipping charges, although I guess the other question I posed was not really answered. Does a buyer have the ability to request that they not be charged for shipping after already purchasing the item? I imagine this might be addressed by eBay somewhere in all the small print concerning bidding and purchasing items, but I don't really want to dig through all the legal-ese in the fine print.

Mentor3 years agoThey could send you a message and ask for an invoice if they have not paid yet - you could then send an invoice with 0 shipping. There is no way for a buyer to request 0 shipping while just going through checkout - no one would ever pay for shipping if they could do this 🙂
Instead of opening a return, they could have messaged you and discussed the issue to see if you were agreeable to some type of partial refund. Some buyers are afraid to do this, assuming the seller will just assume they are fishing for a lower price.

Mentor3 years agoAre you sure you were already charged for the label? Usually a return label isn’t charged to the seller until it is scanned by usps.
You could have offered a partial refund instead of accepting the return, but you can’t change it once you’ve accepted it.
If you are sure you were charged, ask customer service about a refund.
