Buyer requests change of shipping address??
I sold an item and the buyer sent a message through Ebay asking to change the shipping address. Is this normal or is this something that is an attempt at a scam? I have never been asked to do this before although I have only sold around 200 items.

It's quite normal. For some reason, buyers often don't look at the displayed address when they check out...they look at the email confirmation for their payment and THEN discover they used the wrong address.
However, scammers do take advantage. It's easy to tell. If the buyer ID on the message is from the buyer who made the purchase, it's legit. If the buyer ID is different, it's a scammer trying to redirect the package to himself, in which case you should not respond to the request (though you can report it to eBay).
If legit, just cancel the transaction using the reason "issue with buyer's address," relist, provide the buyer with the new item #, and ask him to make the change to his address when he checks out...before completing payment.

-Message the Buyer and let them know that eBay expects Sellers to ship to the address on file at the time of order, otherwise they lose their Seller Protections.
-Let the Buyer know that you also have to ship within your Handling time of "X" day(s) or eBay will give you a late shipping defect.
-Then let them know that if they message you requesting a cancellation you can cancel for them to allow them to update the address information on their account and then purchase the item again when it is Relisted.

To keep your seller protection, you need to cancel the transaction (buyer's request) and relist, so that the buyer can purchase again and add the right address.
