Buyer requests a return 3 weeks after delivery
Summary: cocacolachristmas discusses a situation with a buyer requesting a refund for a Blink camera, claiming it is incompatible and "not as described." Despite all cameras being tested, they feel the buyer either changed his mind or lacks setup knowledge. rfmtm suggests accepting the return to get the item back before issuing a refund. comics-scifi-collectibles explains that eBay's Money Back Guarantee requires accepting returns if an item is claimed as "not as described," despite the seller's policy, and offers details on seller protections and reporting abuse.
I’ve been selling Blink cameras recently. I’ve sold approximately 25 of them with the only hit hitch being one customer requested a replacement and I sent him one. It still wouldn’t connect so he reset his sync module and it connected fine. The return he sent back to me worked fine. Anyways I sold a camera to a buyer and 3 weeks after he received it he requests a refund stating it’s not as described and obsolete. I contacted him and asked him what the problem was and if he had tried resetting his sync module. 3 days later he finally replies and states it’s incompatible with his system. All these cameras were tested by me and then deleted from my account. So I replied and told him I have 3 different versions of the sync modules and the XT2 camera works with all of them. I’ve tried different ways to get eBay involved but it keeps going back to either accept the return or offer a partial refund. I feel this buyer has either just changed his mind or he’s not familiar with setting up Blink cameras. I actually have no problem accepting a return it’s me having to pay for the return shipping I don’t like.

Mentor1 month ago@cocacolachristmas I understand that this is frustrating.
If the buyer files a refund request SAYING that the item is not as described then you need to accept the return and issue the return shipping label.
The eBay Money Back Guarantee overrules your returns policy. Your return policy is only for buyers remorse refund requests such as doesn't fit, changed mind, etc.
If you do not accept the return willingly then the buyer can ask eBay to step in and force a refund. You do not get your seller's fees back, you get a defect and the buyer may be allowed to keep the item.
If the buyer abuses the eBay MBG in some way then you can report them but it doesn't get your money back:

Sellers have protection for return abuse if they offer FREE RETURN shipping on their listings OR if they are a Top Rated seller and offer 30 days or greater returns. The seller can then reduce the refund amount by up to 50% if the buyer sends a different item or somehow reduces the value of the item.
Seller protection:

OP1 month agoThank you. Yes very frustrating. Just wish eBay would look at a sellers feedback and take that into consideration.
