Buyer requesting refund after carrier snafu
Summary: speedy592 seeks advice about a buyer requesting a refund because a package they sold was delayed due to USPS issues. The buyer set a deadline of 8/19 for the return process before escalating to eBay. jacbarcollectibles explains that late delivery is covered under eBay's Money Back Guarantee, necessitating a return acceptance and a full refund by the seller.
Hey all, just looking for guidance. I sold an item that was supposed to go to Massachusetts from Georgia. I shipped within the 2 day window. Item purchased on 7/26, shipped on 7/28. The package however took a wild detour the west coast for quite a while and then was back on track on 8/8 with a 8/10 delivery. The buyer is now requesting a refund because the package arrived later than expected. I don’t want to fulfill a refund for the mistakes of the USPS. The buyer messaged me saying I have until 8/19 to process the return or else it will escalate to Ebay. How should I handle this situation?

Mentor3 weeks agoIf you printed the shipping label using ebay shipping, and printed the label within your handling time, tell the buyer to file an Item Not Received case. If you cannot provide a tracking number that shows Delivered, you have up to 3 days to refund the buyer in full. You can then file an insurance claim for a missing package with the carrier. If tracking shows Delivered later, ebay will reimburse you.

Mentor3 weeks agoUnfortunately a package arriving late is covered by the eBay Money Back Guaranty. If the buyer opened an "Item not as described" case then you must accept the return, provide a prepaid return label and give a full refund once the item is returned. Most buyers do not take advantage of this but some do as in your case.
